Back in 1968, Jack Heuer designed a Skipper chronograph in celebration of the previous years New York Yacht Clubs Intrepid victory over New Zealands Dame Pattie during the Americas Cup. It offered a countdown timer chronograph function with a 15 minute counter at 3 oclock. The sub dial replaced the usual 30 minute counter and was balanced out by a small second sub-dial at 9 oclock, creating a striking bi-compax layout. The TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper watch CBS2241.FN8023 is a reinterpretation of that special model. It features a fifteen minute regatta countdown timer, with three segments represented in shades that reflect the colours used in the historic TAG Heuer Skipper reference 7754. The 12 hour totaliser at 9 oclock is dressed in an Intrepid Teal hue, while the Lagoon Green, Regatta orange and Intrepid Teal colours of the 15 minute counter represent the Skipper of 1968, and are inspired by the rigging and deck of the boat.
The sole purpose of the regatta timer function on the original TAG Heuer Skipper watch was to assist with the start of the race. It is still a complication used today, hence the significance of the brands latest Carrera Skipper Chronograph of 2024, kitted out in a beautiful, indulgent 18ct rose gold outfit. The TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper watch reference CBS2241.FN8023 is a 39mm model, with a solid red gold case, 100 meter water resistance, a sapphire glass front, and a mechanical Calibre TH20-06 that provides an 80 hour power reserve. Experts at TAG Heuer equip the Carrera Skipper watch with a stylish blue material strap and put the movement, complete with a Heuer shield shaped rotor, on show through a sapphire exhibition caseback.
